For farming, nature and climate- Investing in the UK’s natural infrastructure to achieve Net Zero and nature’s recovery on land

New economic analysis demonstrates that the current agricultural budget is significantly less than what is required, for the Northern Ireland agricultural sector to help tackle the nature and climate crisis. The new report finds that Northern Ireland needs to significantly increase investment in nature-friendly farming – up to £413m per year - to ensure nature targets and legally binding climate targets are met.

This independent economic study, commissioned by the RSPB, National Trust and The Wildlife Trusts, is the best evidence yet for how much investment is needed and how it needs to be spent. The analysis shows an annual investment of up to £5.9 billion will be required for at least the next ten years, demonstrating a costed pathway to deliver legally binding nature

and climate targets, and ultimately help secure the future of British farming.
